At school on Tuesday my cousin told me Uncle Hashim and Baba have been holding secret meetings about the ban for weeks. She said our fathers think these changes were the beginning of much worse to come for women.

On Wednesday, we got a call from Uncle Hashim’s family. He had not come home from work and someone at the university said he had been taken by the secret police. Auntie Mariam and Mama were crying on the phone for a long time. Baba told me he was doing what he could to keep my future bright, but now I’m scared for Baba.
